Thanksgiving Baskets; Blessing Needy Families in our Community

On Monday, November 18, Catholic Charities welcomed clients and families to their annual Thanksgiving turkey distribution with fixings at our Norwich, Willimantic, and New London offices. The agency distributed turkeys and chickens supplemented with gravy, mashed potatoes, cranberry sauce, stuffing mix, green beans, and crescent rolls to over 220 families. Happiness ensued as shopping bags filled with these goods, and people secured traditional ingredients for the yearly feast.

Through the emergency food pantry program, Catholic Charities puts tens of thousands of meals on the tables of individuals and families each year.  Keeping those in need within our community well-fed and improving their quality of life is not an easy task.  We would like to thank those who have made donations to the agency which allow us to continue to provide help and create hope in Eastern CT.

Catholic Charities would especially like to thank St. Mary’s Church, and Sacred Heart Parish in Groton, and Gemma E. Moran, United Way for their turkey donations. With the help of Operation Rice Bowl and our Willimantic Advisory Board, Catholic Charities was able to purchase all the fixings!

Catholic Charities has had a presence in the area since 1921, making it one of the oldest social service agencies in the region.  We have a strong commitment to assist those most in need, as well as supporting, strengthening and empowering them to attain the highest level of self-sufficiency through education and enrichment.

Want to help? Catholic Charities is always in need of frozen, canned, and non-perishable food, personal hygiene items, and baby items, especially diapers.  You can also help by volunteering in the food pantry on your free time!
